How to Calculate SGPA at KIIT

  1. Add each subject with its credit value (usually 2, 3 or 4).
  2. Select the grade you scored (O, E, A, B, C, D or F).
  3. SGPA = Σ (Credit × Grade Point) ÷ Σ Credits.
  4. Switch to the CGPA tab to combine all completed semesters.

Example: 4-credit A (8) + 3-credit E (9) + 3-credit B (7) → (4×8 + 3×9 + 3×7) / 10 = 8.00 SGPA.

Everything KIIT Students Need to Know About SGPA & CGPA

Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar, follows a 10-point absolute grading system across all its schools — B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, MCA, Law, Biotech and more. Understanding how your SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) and CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) are computed helps you track your academic performance, plan for placements, and estimate the percentage you'll show on your resume.

What is SGPA?

SGPA stands for Semester Grade Point Average. It reflects your performance in a single semester and is calculated as the credit-weighted average of the grade points you earned in every subject that semester.

SGPA = Σ (Crediti × Grade Pointi) ÷ Σ Crediti

What is CGPA?

CGPA stands for Cumulative Grade Point Average. It is the credit-weighted average of the SGPAs of every semester you have completed so far. KIIT prints the CGPA on your semester grade card and on your final transcript.

CGPA = Σ (Creditssem × SGPAsem) ÷ Σ Creditssem

How to Convert KIIT CGPA to Percentage

KIIT University uses the standard conversion formula recommended by AICTE. To convert your CGPA into an equivalent percentage, simply multiply by 10:

Percentage = CGPA × 10

For example, a CGPA of 8.4 is equivalent to 84%. This is the figure most companies expect on your resume during campus placements.

A Worked Example

Say you have five subjects in a semester with the following grades and credits:

SubjectCreditsGradePointsCredit × Point
Maths4A832
Physics3E927
Programming4O1040
English2B714
Workshop2A816
Total15129

SGPA = 129 ÷ 15 = 8.60. Equivalent percentage: 86%.
