How do I convert SGPA to CGPA?

CGPA = Σ (SGPA of each semester × credits of that semester) ÷ Σ credits. If every semester has equal credits, it is simply the average of all SGPAs.

How do I convert CGPA back to SGPA?

You cannot recover a single semester's SGPA from CGPA alone, but you can find the SGPA you need next semester: required SGPA = (target CGPA × total credits − earned points) ÷ next semester credits.

Is SGPA the same as GPA?

Yes, SGPA is the GPA for one semester. CGPA is the cumulative GPA across all completed semesters.

SGPA = Σ (Credit_i × Grade Point_i) ÷ Σ Credit_i

Grade points: O = 10, E = 9, A = 8, B = 7, C = 6, D = 5, F = 0. Multiply each subject's credits by its grade point, add everything, then divide by total credits of that semester.

SGPA to CGPA conversion

CGPA = Σ (SGPA_sem × Credits_sem) ÷ Σ Credits_sem

Example — three semesters of 22, 24 and 20 credits with SGPAs 8.2, 8.6 and 9.0:

CGPA = 566.8 ÷ 66 = 8.59.

What SGPA do I need next semester?

To reach a target CGPA, use:

Required SGPA = (Target CGPA × Total Credits − Points Earned) ÷ Next Semester Credits

Say you have 8.59 CGPA over 66 credits (566.8 points) and want 8.75 after a 22-credit semester: required SGPA = (8.75 × 88 − 566.8) ÷ 22 = 9.25. That tells you exactly how many O and E grades you need.

Common SGPA mistakes

Ignoring credits. A plain average of grade points is wrong — high-credit papers weigh more.
Leaving out F grades. The credits still count in the denominator, so an F pulls your SGPA down hard.
Mixing audit/non-credit courses in. Zero-credit courses don't affect SGPA.
